![]() Set the way back machine to when Star Wars Jedi Outcast was a relatively new release and I was still somewhat of a PC gamer before I knew I was a gamer period and you'll find me begging my mom for a Star Wars game. The only reasons that I didn't grade this game as excellent are the last gen graphics (that can't really be helped but still weighs in my rating) and slight improvements that I would make on interface and leveling. Force Grip is fun to drop people off ledges while Force Push can be utilized to push enemies into corners and hack and slash them to death. It allows you to choose dark side and light sid e powers. The open ended leveling system is pretty good. ![]() By the end, there are a ton of players you can choose in multiplayer maps (not to mention quite a few unlocked multiplayer maps). The unlockable characters make for an added bonus to completing levels and the game itself. I've had hours of good game time competing or collaborating with friends on the many multiplayer maps. The multiplayer section of the game is loads of fun to chase each other around with force jump and other force powers. Nothing is more fun than being able to run past someone while holding your light saber out to kill them. It makes for a very natural feel while attacking others. I'm not a dark person or anything.ITS JUST A GAME.One of the reasons that I love this game is due to the analogue control of the light saber. Sure it's fun when you have a lightsaber, but I personally took joy in force choking a Stormtrooper and then lighting him up with a blaster. You would imagine being able to Jedi mind trick and force choke an opponent would be powerful, and you'd be right! In single player Kyle gets a mixture of both light and dark side. He's not married to the whole Light/Dark side thing and is capable of wielding both light and dark side powers. Yet another thing that makes Katarn cool. Katarn fits seamlessly into the mold of established characters like Mon Motha and Lando Calrissian to be a great leading man in the game. It's also integral to Kyle's character that we see him shunning his Jedi instinct and then slowly realising he needs to go back to the Jedi order to fight impending evil. We begin the game with Kyle powerless and invading an imperial base armed with only a blaster.Ī lot of folks would complain about lacking the ability to go off with a lightsaber right out of the gate, but I liked using a blaster for a change. In the game prior to Jedi Outcast, Kyle forsakes his Jedi abilities and goes back to just being a part of the Rebel alliance. He's like if you took Han Solo, and gave him Jedi abilities. Out of all the characters in the Star Wars video game universe, Kyle Katarn is my favorite. In case you never played it, I got some reasons to tempt you into finding a copy and giving it a try. Typically, you'll find more people talking about its successor Jedi Academy, which is pretty good as well, but not as good as this one. It released in 2002 to high acclaim on PC and decent ratings on PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. ![]() ![]() With titles like those, Star Wars Jedi Outcast: Jedi Knight 2 is frequently forgotten. It's tough to be a decent Star Wars game and be compared to Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: Battlefront (classic), Super Star Wars, Rogue Squadron, and The Force Unleashed. On a list of Star Wars games that you HAVE to play, you don't often see this title on the list. ![]()
